Mediamatic Open Call 2025
Estranged Studio, a dynamic duo of Amsterdam-based designers with roots in the vibrant festival scene, is thrilled to submit a proposal for the Serres Séparées open call. Our work explores the boundaries of perception through immersive installations that blend design and light. By manipulating these elements, we aim to create environments that challenge the viewer's understanding of space and time, leaving them with a sense of wonder and intrigue. Mediamatic, with its commitment to innovation and its unique waterfront location, provides the perfect setting for our latest project.
Nebula
Nebula is a concept that is inspired by natural phenomenal, such as a nebula cloud in space and the northern lights. By distorting light in a certain way, we create a visually interesting pattern of perfect light circles. The composition gives a prism like feeling of light being broken into multiple colors and directions. The effect distorted the light in a certain way that the spectator does not anticipate, so spectators are left questioning what they are seeing. Even after looking at it for a couple of minutes. For the open call, we’ve adapted our Nebula concept to seamlessly integrate with your greenhouse. Our vision involves completely covering the greenhouse with our unique panels, ensuring a captivating visual experience from every angle. We plan to securely fasten these panels between the aluminum profiles using glass spacers, ensuring no damage to the structure. By enveloping the entire greenhouse, the artwork becomes visible from all sides, including passing traffic on the water. The slowly rotating imagery creates a constantly evolving composition, offering a serene yet distinctive visual experience. This invites visitors to linger and explore the artwork from various perspectives.
