Featherlight
Featherlight is a kinetic artwork that captivates audiences with its hypnotic and immersive effect. This freestanding installation, developed by Estranged Studio, seamlessly combines movement, light, and atmosphere, making it equally suited for stage design.
At its core is a transparent tube system, spanning 6 to 8 meters in diameter, where thousands of recycled feathers are chaotically propelled by powerful air currents. Their continuous, swirling motion creates an ever-changing visual spectacle that feels both organic and otherworldly. High-intensity LED tubes, programmed in collaboration with a lighting team, pulse in sync with the movement, amplifying the kinetic energy with dynamic patterns.
Sustainability plays a crucial role, as the feathers—sourced from a polluting industry—are repurposed to bring awareness through art. Surrounding lasers and strategically placed lighting in nearby trees enhance the experience, immersing visitors in a surreal, dreamlike atmosphere. “Sliding into Chaos” is more than an installation; it is a living, breathing entity that draws audiences into a world of motion, light, and transformation.
Concept and sketches
Featherlight will give a captivating visual experience. Which evokes the viewers to think about waste as something beautiful and powerful. Featherlight can be hung from any rigging point or supported from the ground. There will be multiple hanging points on the structure, to make sure we are flexible in the creation of Featherlight. Hanging Featherlight also gives the possibility for motion design.
In the drawings Featherlight is hung from a pa tower, which is normally used to hang sounds systems for festivals.
This easy to build structure will be more than suitable to have Featherlight above your audience. But the possibilities are almost endless. If you have any questions concerning rigging or the technical possibilities. Please let us know.
